This is another assignment of design history in my MFA program. I decided to study Push Pin Studio founded in 1954 by American designer Milton Glaser, Seymour Chwast, Reynold Ruffins and Edward Sorel.

This is an small assignment of design history in my MFA program.  The objective is to use the style of the era and create a new design.  I choose Constructivism in 1920s. The style in this period often used bold color, bold and large sans serif font, diagonal axis, asymmetrical balance, and photomontage.  The most often color choices were: red, yellow, black, and white.  If you are interested in my little assignment, please check out my blog.

I created this poster design based on the lyric of the 1980’s song “Sister Are Doin’ It For Themselves,” which was a hit recorded by British pop duo Eurthmics and American soul/R&B musican Aretha Franklin. Design Direction: Using typographic as a way of expression, and combining the 80’s heroine comic book character Wonder woman, as the symbol of the strength, power, and freedom celebrating the women’s liberation.

This is a poster design of Orchesis Dance Company for the 2009 Concert ,”IMPACT.” Design Direction The client had a limited budget and limited photo stocks, and the design layout needed to be scalable or used in various applications such as billboard, campus flyers, and stand alone show displays. Design Solution The final design is a scalable vector based design with two colors.
